How far she went, Mary Hood

A country home sets the stage for a story:
A small house in the country, Summer
The smallest details can speak volumes:
Queen Anne's Lace

A rebellious teenage girl sent away
to live with her grandmother
An old woman who's seen what a
a life trouble can bring, and its effect on
those around it.

"She got out to take the idle walk down to her buried hopes...(283) "
A mother lost a daughter, now forced to raise another....
"Nearer, there was the racket of motercycles
 laboring cross-country, incet-like, distracting. (283)
"Your daddy wants you to cash in the plane ticket and
buy you something. School clothing. For here. (282)"

"The girl slid off the motercycle and
stood halfway between her choices...(284)"
"Then she hit the wallow where the tadpoles were already
five weeks old. The Chevy plowed in and stalled (286)."
Sometimes one's choices don't like to let you go
"'We can get under!' the girl cried suddenly (286)"

"She told the dog to stay, but he knew a trick...(283)"

"The woman started home saying, 'Around here we
bear our burdens (287)."
